It is the building housing the central bank of the Mexican state whose function is to provide the national currency to the national economy. The building was inspired by the Italian Renaissance, it was a project of the architect A.R. Whitney led by the Mexican Gonzalo Garita. It was built in 1905 to house the offices of The Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York, but in 1925 it was acquired by the government of Plutarco Elias Calles to be the Bank of Mexico.
