in detail

Better known as Casa Talavera, it is located in the district of la Merced and is belongs to the National Autonomous University of Mexico. The building was constructed in colonial baroque style by the Marquis de Aguayo. As in other constructions, pre-Hispanic remains are to be seen as it was a Temazcales site. In the colonial times, it was a leather tanning factory, Talavera pottery factory, Gabino Barreda school and cellar.

The museum exhibits pots, spoons, knives, seals and clay figurines of the Aztecs. From the colonial era, it displays a mortar, bath tub, spittoon and plates with and without signature. Besides being a museum, it is a cultural center where lectures, conferences and courses are held.
