in detail

He has named it Crystal Palace because of the similarity that keeps with the Crystal Palace in London. It is a German Jugendstil style building, designed by Bruno Möhring to be a machine room for metal. In 1905 the company Landeros and Coss went bankrupt and in 1909 it was acquired by the Department of Public Instruction and Fine Arts to be the Museo Nacional de Historia Natural.

On November 25, 1975, the president Guillermo Soberon opened Museo Universitario del Chopo and since then evolution has accompanied it, keeping its original Art Nouveau and many original European structures. With over one hundred years of life since its construction, it has become the meeting point of underground cultures of the eighties: Performing arts, performance, literature and rock.

Precisely in 1980 within its walls barter as cultural economy was explored and became the imagination of an urban area where there are different social classes, generations, cultural scenes and parts of the city. After a long period of remodeling, it re-emerged as an avantgarde space, without neglecting the past and its main spheres of art, which brings together the visual arts, literature, film and music.

Nowadays this museum offers four workshops for kids over 5 years: Introduction to plastic arts, Modelling, Classic ballet and Theater for kids.
