The Corpus Christi Temple was part of a convent built to house the daughters of indigenous rulers during the colony. Of baroque style, construction started in 1720 with architect Pedro Arrieta. The stone custody symbolizing the Corpus Christi is remarkable. The spirit of the St. Claire community was austere and so were the convent and the church.
The temple today houses an extraordinary collection of 27,000 historic documents dating from the 16th century till the 20th century. There are private documents belonging to Benito Juarez, the poetess Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz' last will and a power of attorney for Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla from the time he was rector of the Valladolid University.
