in detail

It’s a living museum for the Mexican painter, cartoonist, writer, engraver, sculptor and illustrator José Luis Cuevas. The building was the Convent of Santa Inés, dating from the late sixteenth century. In the main courtyard an imposing sculpture called La Giganta greets visitors, an anthropomorphic figure with feminine and masculine traits.

The collections consist of 1,860 artworks from different Latin American artists such as Carlos Gorriarena, Roberto Matta, Leonel Góngora, Ignacio Iturria and Carlos Mérida. There are temporary exhibitions led by the same Cuevas with erotic themed works; the Beatriz del Carmen Cuevas galleries, José Gómez Sicre and Fernando Gamboa galleries accommodate exhibitors of the contemporary scene; the Egoteca, comprises photographs of the painter, his drawings and historical chronology. There are also the Bertha Cuevas, Martha Lock and Los Siameses galleries.
