The Plaza Santa Catarina is a site created in 1568 with the aim of assisting the Metropolitan Cathedral. The site is thus names because the brotherhood of Santa Catarina Mártir was paid to build it.
Such was the fame of the square, that welcome parties were held here for the arrival of each viceroy or important persons.
