It is the headquarters of Instituto Nacional de Estudios Históricos de las Revoluciones de México. The building is commonly known as home of Chucho el Roto or Casa de los Dos Patios (House of Two Yards). It was built by the ends of XIX century owing to be the summer home of philanthropist Francisco de Urquiaga. It is a sample of Neoclassic architectonical style with French and North American influences; the basement has a tunnel which connected, according to the legend, with Plaza de San Jacinto and other residencies of the area. It is said to have been the guard of bandit Jesús Arriaga, known as Chucho el Roto.
It has the name of Casa de los Dos Patios (House of Two Yards) because at some point the house was divided into two condominiums, one with a bigger yard in the center, surrounded by rooms and the other one with bedrooms for service staff and stables. Nowadays, a part of the building is Revoluciones de Mexico Library that has more than 83,000 samples, among them: books, pamphlets, and magazines besides a reading room and a big room for exhibitions, forums an meetings. Guided visits to the library and the current exhibition must be reserved 24 hours before the requested time.
