in detail

The Cemetery operated between 1832 and 1871. In the church of San Fernando lie the remains of the viceroys Matías Gálvez and Bernardo de Gálvez. During the government of Benito Juárez, seeing that there were the remains of famous people here and after enactment of the reform laws, it was decided that all cemeteries would be owned by the government and called Pantheon of Illustrious Men. In the courtyard, you can find the remains of Vicente Guerrero, Ignacio Comonfort, José Joaquín Herrera, Martín Carrera, Margarita Maza, Santiago Xicoténcatl, Francisco Zarco, Miguel Miramón and other people that have been essential players in the history of Mexico.
