in detail

Cuhuacán was the most important religious center for the Mexica. During colonial times, religious orders settled here in order to evangelize the locals, drawing on the great influence that Culhuacán had in their society.

The former Augustinian convent that dates from 1607 is one of the few historical monuments of this period in the southeast of Mexico City. The former convent courtyard preserves delicately made murals that are worth visiting.

The site museum, located in the upper cloister, exhibits pieces recovered from the excavations of the ceremonial centers. You can also visit a monastic cell.

It currently holds an exhibition that includes photographs of the stages of restoration of the building from its abandonment in the late eighteenth century to the present. The collection also contains original objects from the pre-Hispanic and colonial periods which have been found during excavations at the property.

Workshops, conferences, courses and literary presentations that bring culture to local residents are also held.
