in detail

The Site Museum includes a tour of the building of the Secretaría de Educación Pública, and a display of the artifacts that were found during restoration work in the church and convent of Santa María del Divino Verbo de la Encarnación, which is also found here.

The building was inaugurated during the government of Álvaro Obregón, when José Vasconcelos was Secretary of Education, on July 9, 1922. The following year, the painter Diego Rivera began painting the walls, as a way of developing the artistic literacy of the people. On the walls, information about daily life, customs and the history of the country took shape.
