The mural was commissioned by the architect Carlos Obregón Santacilia. The original location was the Versailles restaurant in the Hotel del Prado. However, after the 1985 earthquake it was moved to what is now the Museo Mural Diego Rivera, which was built a few steps from the first site.
This work was precisely the reason for creating the museum in 1988. The mural condenses four centuries and shows Hernán Cortés, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, Benito Juarez, Porfirio Diaz and people close to the muralist, including Frida Kahlo and la Catrina, among others.
