Coyoacan, bohemian charm

Take 6 hours

Say Coyoacan and the city residents smile, because Coyoacan has got such good vibe. In the midst of the huge metropolis, a charming neighborhood with the soul of a village: colorful facades, gardens with gazebos, markets, midday mass, colonial mansions and leisurely pace.

Coyoacan charm has captivated artists and intellectuals for decades. Begin your visit at the Casa Azul, the family home of Frida Kahlo, now a museum showing her inner universe. Make your way to the center now. In front of the Fragata Park you will find the traditional market. Keep going to the end of the street. To your right, the huge Hidalgo garden, with a beautiful gazebo and the famous fountain of coyotes. Presiding over the garden is the great temple of San Juan Bautista with a wonderful interior and a quiet courtyard. If you're hungry, eat on the terrace of one of the restaurants and enjoy the great atmosphere. You can buy a gift at the Mexican Artisan Bazaar or return later. We ar not finished yet!

From the ancient courtyard of the convent you can admire two of the most beautiful houses in Coyoacan: the house of Diego de Ordaz and the house of Francisco Sosa. Now go along calle de la Higuera to Conchita Park, an idyllic and peaceful place with centenary trees. La Malinche prayed her first prayers here.

Tired? Barely a block away, the modern Elena Garro Culture House will surprise you with an excellent library and a garden terrace, perfect for the last coffee of the day.

If you do not want to walk, the tram tour is the best way to see all of Coyoacan.

The entrance fee to the Museum of Frida Kahlo (Blue House) also grants you entrance to the Anahuacalli Museum.

If you want to extend your visit, go along Francisco Sosa towards the Viveros gardens.  Visit the National Museum of Watercolors, the National Sound Archive (Fonoteca Nacional) and the Jesus Reyes Heroles Culture House.
