Sculptures in lava

Take 2 hours

Photography of a cosmic circle. Follow the trail of the serpent. Wander among whimsical geometric shapes. The UNAM Sculpture Space is probably one of the most genuinely surprising locations in all of Mexico City.

Walk and observe the rotund geometry of a circle of 120 m in diameter, like a crater in the middle of the volcanic landscape. Leave the perimeter and walk to the center of the circle on the floor of petrified lava. Feel the energy of the place. The Silence. The sun.

Leave the hypnotic circle and dive into the vegetation surrounding it, called Pedregal de San Angel. Follow the trail and head for the large, whimsical geometric shapes that emerge from the bushes, bright, solid and pure colors among the vegetation: Lava and metal; ecology and art.

Bring comfortable shoes because the volcanic terrain is uneven. Also bring drinks and sunscreen.

The Sculpture Space is closed on weekends.

Access is from the Mario de la Cueva circuit, south of CU.

Combine this experience with a visit to Cuicuilco the ceremonial center located in the same Pedregal de San Angel, with a circular pyramid that evokes the circle of tezontle and the representation of the cosmos pyramid.
