in detail

Milpa Alta offers visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the authentic, rural Mexico full of traditions without leaving Mexico City. This delegation is a dramatic contrast to the bustle of the big city and offers tourists the opportunity to discover the places with more local flavor.

San Pedro Atocpan is probably the best known destination. Headquarters of the Feria Nacional del Mole, this town attracts thousands of visitors every year to try all the delicious and traditional varieties. Other very traditional festivals are the gastronomic fairs of San Pablo Oztotepec, Santa Ana Tlacotenco, San Salvador Cuauhtenco and San Antonio Tecomitl. The Gastronomic Route includes tastings of local specialties like mole, barbecue, atoles, tamales, cocoles, quesadillas and chilatole.

The traditions are still alive in Milpa Alta. Do not miss the festivales de globos of Cantolla in September, San Agustín Ohtenco on Day of the Dead and San Francisco Tecoxpa at the end of November. Other very traditional attractions are the Juegos Autóctonos in San Juan Tepenahuac in March and the monumental altars of the dead in San Antonio Tecomitl.

If you are interested in health, do not miss taking a Temazcal healer to help you harmonize body and spirit.
