in detail

In the delegation of Tlalpan you can find landscapes full of contrast ranging from pre-Hispanic ruins, colonial art and nineteenth century facades to modern malls. The center of Tlalpan has some essential jewels to visit, like the parish church of San Agustín de las Cuevas of the sixteenth century and the market. Culture is experienced everyday in the Casa Frissac, Casa de la Cultura, Centro Cultural Ollin Yoliztli and the Multiforo Tlalpan. It is part of everyday life in the traditional pubs and restaurants.

Tlalpan has an important natural heritage, with splendid landscapes such as those provided by the Parque Nacional Fuentes Brotantes, Bosque de Tlalpan, Parque Nacional Cumbres del Ajusco and the Parque Ecológico de la Ciudad de México; as well as urban green spaces such as Parque Juana de Asbaje and the Parque Ecológico Loreto Peña Pobre.

In rural areas, indigenous villages preserve their traditions and customs: Chimalcóyotl, San Pedro Mártir, San Andrés Totoltepec, San Miguel Xicalco, Magdalena Petlacalco, San Miguel Ajusco and San Tomás Ajusco. At parties, band music, rodeos, fairs, fireworks and traditional food, such as barbacoa de hoyo with its soup, mushroom or bone soup and popular squash blossom and corn smut quesadillas, corn husk tamales with a tasty atole champurrado, are essential.
