It is considered the national zoo and is one of the best in Latin America. It is located on a site that has been historically important since the pre-Hispanic period. It was a sanctuary where Aztec “tlatoanis” (emperorss) rested amongst springs, zoos and bathing areas.
Following its historic vocation, the current zoo was opened in 1924 by the Mexican scientist Alfonso L. Herrera. 243 different wildlife species can be seen here. Its emblematic animals include the Mexican wolf, jaguar, axolotl, giant panda, giraffe, desert bighorn sheep and more.
It is a place for the who family, but specially for the childre, who will have fun and be amazed with all the animals that this place home. The zoo also offers guided tours and summer courses for children.
