What this section covers. Everything that is not Mexican and not neatly regional — burgers, bistros, pizza, brunch and the international chains.
Why it exists in this volume. Mexico City has become one of the main destinations for remote work and for international business, and the demand has produced a dense layer of restaurants built for familiar formats: the burger, the bistro, the brunch menu, the steakhouse. The Roma, Condesa, Juárez and Polanco carry most of it.
What it is genuinely useful for. Three situations. Breakfast before anything Mexican opens, since the city's own breakfast is substantial and late. A predictable meal when you do not want to gamble — which, after a few days of chiles, is a real need. And travelling with children or with dietary restrictions, where an international menu is simply easier to navigate.
The chains. Vips and Sanborns, the two Mexican coffee-shop restaurant chains, are everywhere, open early, take cards and have clean bathrooms and wi-fi — which makes them more useful to a visitor than their menus suggest. The American chains are concentrated in shopping centres.
Practical notes. Cards accepted almost everywhere in this category, unlike markets and street food. Mexican meal times still apply: kitchens fill at 14:00 and again after 21:00.
