What this section is. Tourism packages for Mexico City — organised combinations of tours, transport, accommodation and meals, sold by registered operators and listed here through the city tourism ministry.
What is worth buying as a package. Three things. Transport to places that are awkward without a car: Teotihuacán, Tepoztlán, the monarch butterfly sanctuaries. A certified guide for archaeology and muralism, where the difference between a specialist and a general guide is substantial. And the logistics of a day with several stops, where someone else handles the timings.
What is not worth buying. Queue-skipping, because queues here are short except on Sundays. And entrance fees, which are inexpensive and sold at the gate.
The five questions to ask before paying. What exactly the price includes; how many commercial stops the itinerary carries, which is the most frequent complaint about cheap excursions; the size of the group; the language of the guide; and the real return time.
An important caveat about listings. Packages have validity dates and prices change. Several entries in any listing of this kind are past their validity period. Confirm the current price, dates and terms directly with the operator before transferring anything.
