What this section is. The full catalogue of places in Mexico City, browsable by the kind of venue rather than by neighbourhood or theme: museums, parks, churches, markets, theatres, stadiums, viewpoints, shopping centres, spas, bars and everything else the city holds.
How to use it. Start from what kind of afternoon you want, not from a map. The city is too large to cover by proximity — crossing it twice in a day is the commonest planning mistake — so pick the type of place first, then group what you find by borough.
The orientation that helps. The visitor circuit effectively fits into four boroughs: Cuauhtémoc (historic centre, Roma, Condesa, Juárez, Zona Rosa), Miguel Hidalgo (Chapultepec, Polanco, the great museums), Coyoacán and Álvaro Obregón (San Ángel). Add Xochimilco for the canals, Gustavo A. Madero for the Basilica and Tlalpan for its colonial centre and the Ajusco.
Practical notes that apply across the catalogue. Most museums close on Mondays and are free on Sundays for residents, which makes Sunday the busiest day everywhere. The Metro and Metrobús reach almost everything — Santa Fe is the significant exception. And every address needs its borough and postcode, because colonia names repeat across the city.
