What you will find here. The companies and operators that organise tours of Mexico City and excursions to the destinations nearby. They range from double-decker tourist buses to operators who build tailor-made packages.
What is worth paying for and what is not. Three things are worth it: transport to distant or poorly connected sites — Teotihuacán, Tepoztlán, the monarch butterfly sanctuaries — a certified guide for muralism and archaeology, and the logistics of a day with several stops. It is not worth paying to skip queues, which are short here except on Sundays, or for entrance fees, which are cheap and sold at the gate.
The main options. Turíbus and Capital Bus are the hop-on hop-off buses, useful on day one to get your bearings. The tourist tram runs narrated routes through Coyoacán and the centre, with evening legend tours. Marco Polo organises excursions outside the city.
Before booking, always. Confirm exactly what the price includes, how many shopping stops the itinerary has, the guide's language, the size of the group and the real return time. And if you are going to Teotihuacán, ask the departure time: before 08:00 changes the visit completely.
