What this section is. Tourism packages for Mexico City — organised combinations of tours, transport, accommodation and meals, offered by registered operators and listed through the city tourism ministry.
What is worth buying as a package. Transport to places that are awkward without a car: Teotihuacán, Tepoztlán, the monarch butterfly sanctuaries from November to March. A certified guide for archaeology and muralism, where a specialist changes the experience substantially. And the logistics of a day with several stops.
What is not. Queue-skipping, because queues here are short except on Sundays; and entrance fees, which are inexpensive at the gate.
The five questions to ask before paying. What exactly the price includes; how many commercial stops the itinerary carries, which is the commonest complaint about cheap excursions; the group size; the guide's language; and the real return time.
One caveat about any package listing. Packages carry validity dates, and prices change. Some entries in a listing of this kind have passed their validity period. Confirm the current price, dates and terms directly with the operator before transferring money — the tourism ministry publishes these listings but the terms are the provider's responsibility.
