What this section covers. Hotels in and around Chapultepec and Polanco — the museum and luxury quarter of the city.

What is on your doorstep. The Bosque de Chapultepec, the largest urban park in Latin America, with the castle on the hill, the lake, the free zoo and the Museo Nacional de Antropología — which needs half a day on its own. The Museo Tamayo and the Museo de Arte Moderno, holding Frida Kahlo's Las dos Fridas. And in Plaza Carso, the Soumaya and the Jumex, standing in the same square and both free.

Polanco itself. Avenida Presidente Masaryk, the most expensive shopping street in Latin America, lined with jacarandas that flower lilac in late March and April; Parque Lincoln; and most of the city's internationally ranked restaurants.

Practical notes. Metro Chapultepec and Sevilla, line 1, and Polanco and Auditorio, line 7. The park and its museums close on Mondays — which catches out everyone arriving on a Sunday night. Parking in Polanco is scarce and expensive; the district is walked. Book the well-known restaurants weeks ahead for Friday and Saturday.
