What this section covers. Media events, broadcasts and recordings open to the public — programmes you can attend as an audience, press days and the media side of the city's cultural calendar.

The context. Mexico City is the broadcasting capital of the Spanish-speaking world. Televisa and TV Azteca both have their main studios here, Radio UNAM and the Instituto Mexicano de la Radio produce from the city, and the Canal Once and Canal 22 public channels run their own cultural programming.

What you can actually attend. Studio audiences for entertainment programmes, which are usually free and arranged in advance through the producer; public recordings of radio programmes at the UNAM and IMER; and the open days and guided tours some broadcasters run.

Practical notes. Everything is in Spanish. Studio audiences normally require registering ahead, bringing photo identification and arriving well before the recording time, and may have a dress code. Confirm the arrangements with the producer rather than turning up.
