What this section is. The full listing of events in Mexico City, across every category the site covers: art and exhibitions, theatre and dance, cinema, concerts, religious and traditional festivals, sport, family activities and academic life.
How the city's calendar works. Two different rhythms run in parallel. The institutional one — museums, theatres, orchestras, festivals — publishes its programme weeks or months ahead and is easy to plan around. The community one — patronal feasts, carnivals, pilgrimages, posadas — follows the religious calendar, is announced locally with little notice, and is where most of what is distinctive about this city actually happens.
The dates that are worth planning a trip around. 1 and 2 November for Día de Muertos; 12 December for the Virgin of Guadalupe; Holy Week in Iztapalapa; the last Wednesday of most months for Noche de Museos; and late October for the Grand Prix.
Practical notes. Most public and religious events are free. Confirm dates close to your travel: listings age quickly, and the community calendar is set locally.
