What this section covers. Live music across the city, from the national orchestras to the small venues of the Roma and the Condesa.

The institutional end. The Palacio de Bellas Artes hosts the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional and the Ballet Folklórico; the Sala Nezahualcóyotl at the UNAM cultural centre, one of the best-regarded concert halls in Latin America, is home to the OFUNAM and sells tickets at a fraction of European prices. Both publish their seasons months ahead.

The rest. Arena Ciudad de México, the Palacio de los Deportes and the Foro Sol take the international tours; the Teatro Metropólitan and the Lunario are the mid-sized rooms; and the small venues — Foro Indie Rocks, Caradura, Multiforo Alicia and the bars of the Roma and Condesa — carry the week-to-week programme.

Practical notes. Buy from the official box office or the venue's own ticketing where possible. Shows start late: a 21:00 billing usually means 22:00. For the trip home after a stadium show, the Metro closes around midnight, so plan an app taxi.
