What this section covers. Packages built around shows, events and nights out.
What is worth buying ahead. Lucha libre at the Arena México on a Friday — a package usually bundles transport and a guide, which solves the one real problem, since the Arena is in colonia Doctores and getting home afterwards needs planning. The Ballet Folklórico de México at the Palacio de Bellas Artes. Concerts and football at the Estadio Azteca, where the value is in the transport rather than the ticket.
What not to buy ahead. Entry to bars and clubs in the Roma, Condesa and Zona Rosa, which are walkable, cheap and need no arrangement. And the free things — Noche de Museos on the last Wednesday of most months, the Sunday car-free Reforma, the Zócalo concerts.
The timings that catch people out. Dinner starts at 21:00, bars fill after 23:00 and clubs after midnight. The Metro closes around midnight, so a night out needs a return plan.
Practical notes. Buy event tickets through official channels. For the Azteca and the Autódromo, use public transport: the car parks take hours to empty. Confirm prices and validity with the operator.
