What this is. A tool for finding what is close to you right now — which, in a city of this size, is the single most useful thing a visitor can have.
Why proximity beats planning here. Mexico City covers an enormous area and its traffic is unpredictable. The difference between a good day and a lost one is usually not which museum you chose but how far you travelled to reach it. Knowing what is within ten minutes of where you are standing is worth more than a list of the city's best anything.
What tends to be nearer than you think. The historic centre packs the Zócalo, the cathedral, the Templo Mayor, Madero street, the Torre Latinoamericana and Bellas Artes into about fifteen minutes of walking. Chapultepec holds the castle, the zoo, the Anthropology Museum and the Tamayo in one park. And the Roma, Condesa and Juárez run into one another without a break.
What to check before setting off anywhere. Whether it closes on Mondays, which almost every museum does; whether it needs booking, which the Frida Kahlo Museum and the Barragán house do; and how to get back, if it is after midnight when the Metro closes.
