Foro Cultural de la Magdalena Contreras

What the building was. The venue occupies what was the El Águila textile factory, a company of French and Mexican capital that operated from 1846. Some of the original industrial buildings were kept when the site was converted, so the hall itself is part of the city's industrial heritage —the same waterpower from the Magdalena river that drove the mills is why the factory stood here.

What happens inside. Theatre, concerts, workshops and exhibitions programmed by the borough, generally free or very cheap. Check the current listings before travelling, as the calendar is announced locally and changes month to month.

Getting there. In La Magdalena Contreras, in the south-west of the city, on the way up towards Los Dinamos. There is no metro: take a bus along Avenida San Jerónimo from Miguel Ángel de Quevedo or Copilco stations on Line 3.
