How far back it goes. The history of Miguel Hidalgo reaches back to the pre-Hispanic settlements of Chapultepec and its surroundings —what are now the barrios of Tacuba and Tacubaya. Chapultepec was the Mexica rulers' retreat and the source of the city's drinking water, carried in by aqueduct.
What is here now. This single borough holds the Bosque de Chapultepec with its museums and castle, Polanco with Parque Lincoln and Avenida Masaryk, Nuevo Polanco with the Soumaya and the aquarium, the towers of Paseo de la Reforma, and the old villages of Tacuba and Tacubaya with their colonial churches. For most visitors, it is the second borough they spend time in after Cuauhtémoc.
Getting around. Metro Line 7 runs north-south through it (Polanco, Auditorio, Constituyentes, Tacubaya) and Line 1 serves Tacubaya and Observatorio. Chapultepec park is closed on Mondays, which catches visitors out.
