Av. de la Paz s/n, Col. Chimalistac. 01070
What happened here. The park takes its name from La Bombilla, the restaurant that stood on this spot and where former president Álvaro Obregón was assassinated in 1928 by José de León Toral, with the nun known as Madre Conchita accused of being the intellectual author of the crime. The monument and the park were built in his honour, and the monument is still the centrepiece.
What it is like now. In front of the monument there is a reflecting pool ringed with benches, the natural place to sit and talk or drink a coffee. The green areas clean the air of a busy corner of the city and give the park its shade. Neighbours come here to exercise, and there are always vendors selling ice cream, chicharrones preparados and other street snacks.
Where it is. On Avenida de la Paz, in Chimalistac, on the edge of San Ángel: the Bazar del Sábado, the Carmen church and museum and the cobbled streets of San Ángel are all within a ten-minute walk, so the park works best as a stop on that walk. Miguel Ángel de Quevedo station on metro Line 3 is the closest.
