Eje central Lázaro Cárdenas s/n, Col. Centro. 06000, Centro Histórico
Who it honours. The square is dedicated to Aquiles Serdán, the anti-reelectionist who opposed General Porfirio Díaz and is remembered for starting the rebellion in the state of Puebla in 1910, where he was killed. The dedication fits the area: this is the edge of the Centro where the revolution's politics played out in the streets.
What you see from the benches. The famous Teatro Blanquita, the variety theatre that shaped Mexican popular entertainment for decades, stands opposite. Around the square the city is busy and commercial —Eje Central, cheap electronics, street food— so take it as a pause rather than a destination.
Getting there. On Eje Central Lázaro Cárdenas, north of Bellas Artes. Bellas Artes station on metro Lines 2 and 8 and Garibaldi-Lagunilla on Line 8 are both a short walk, and Plaza Garibaldi is three blocks north.
