The theater was built in 1953 on the initiative of José María Dávila, who proposed that there should be a space of different dimensions to those that already existed. The facade has a mural by the painter Diego Rivera covered with Italian tiles. The theater is a landmark in Mexico City; hence avantgarde works of art are presented here.
