Mesones s/n, Col. Centro. 06000
This square is located in the popular La Merced neighborhood. Its importance lies in the legend that has been told for decades: the omen that led to the founding of Tenochtitlan, where the ancient Mexicans found an eagle eating a snake.
Today the square is adorned with forty-two eagles in talavera that give it one of its many names, but the official name is the Juan Jose Baz Square, recalling a liberal governor and radical advocate of secularization.
