Paseo del Río s/n, Col. Chimalistac. 01830
What you are looking at. Chimalistac takes its name from a pre-Hispanic settlement called Temalistac, "where the sacrificial stone is carved" —it is said that the Sun Stone, the Aztec calendar now in the Anthropology Museum, was worked here. The colonial-era lanes and stone bridges carry you into a quieter, older city: the bridges once crossed the Magdalena river, which was piped underground as the city grew, so today they span a paved street rather than water.
How to see it. This is a walking visit of twenty minutes: the Plaza Federico Gamboa, the chapel of San Sebastián Mártir, the cobbled alleys and the bridges themselves. Pair it with San Ángel, which begins a few streets away, and with the Parque de la Bombilla next door.
Getting there. In Chimalistac, between San Ángel and Coyoacán. Miguel Ángel de Quevedo station on metro Line 3 is a ten-minute walk away.
