Markets & bazaars, Centennial shops
Mina #15, Col. Guerrero. 06000, Historic Center
What it is. A small market in Colonia Guerrero, immediately behind the old Teatro Blanquita, and a piece of commercial history: it was the first market in the city set up specifically for retail trade rather than wholesale. It holds about 115 stalls for eating and for buying fresh food.
Why come. For the food counters. This is home cooking at neighbourhood prices —guisados, soups, a few specialities each stall does well— and the atmosphere of a market that serves the people who live around it. Go hungry and order by pointing.
The thing to check first. It opens only at weekends: Saturday 08:00–18:00 and Sunday 08:00–17:00, closed Monday to Friday. More than one visitor has walked here mid-week and found the shutters down.
Getting there. Mina #15, on the northern edge of the Historic Centre. Metro Garibaldi (Lines 8 and B) and Hidalgo (Lines 2 and 3) are both a short walk, and the Alameda Central is five minutes away on foot.
