in detail

What it is. The park sits between the blocks of the Unidad Tlatelolco, with benches, playgrounds and lawns. It was built at the same time as the estate in the 1960s, as part of Mario Pani's plan —open space between towers was central to the design, not an afterthought.

Why it matters here. Tlatelolco carries a particular weight in the city's memory: the archaeological site and colonial church at the Plaza de las Tres Culturas, the 1968 student movement and the 1985 earthquake all belong to this ground. The park is where the estate's residents live that history day to day.

Getting there. In the Nonoalco-Tlatelolco estate, north of the Centro. Tlatelolco station on metro Line 3 and Garibaldi-Lagunilla on Lines 8 and B are both within walking distance, and the Plaza de las Tres Culturas is a few minutes away.
