The building that houses La Casa del Poeta Ramón López Velarde dates from the time of Porfirio Diaz and evidently was the home of the writer of La suave patria. In 1982 it was declared a historic monument by the National Institute of Anthropology and History and in 1989 it was expropriated and restored by the Department of Mexico City.
Currently this building is home to numerous literary and artistic events, in addition to the Salvador Novo and Efraín Huerta libraries. While the museum section corresponds to the idea and organization of Guillermo Sheridan, in which books, photographs and other items related to the life and work of the poet zacatecano are safeguarded.
The Ramon Lopez Velarde Museum offers a program of guided school visits with prior notice, during which a "metaphorical" tour is made, the aim of which is to link the sensitivity to things that belonged to López Velarde.
