in detail

What it contains. Tlalpan offers landscapes full of contrast, from pre-Hispanic remains and colonial art to 19th-century facades and modern shopping centres. Its historic centre —the main square, the San Agustín church, the Casa Chata and the arcades— is one of the best preserved in the city, and it is also the largest borough by area, running up into the Ajusco forests.

What to see. The colonial centre with its square and market; the Cuicuilco archaeological site, one of the oldest settlements in the valley, next to Perisur; the Ajusco volcano and its hiking trails; and the Multiforo Tlalpan for concerts and the Ollin Kan festival.

Getting around. No metro reaches central Tlalpan: the Tren Ligero runs to Huipulco and Estadio Azteca, and buses run down Calzada de Tlalpan from the Tasqueña terminus. For the Ajusco you need a car or a taxi.
