Ebi Sushi

What it is. A neighbourhood sushi place on Insurgentes Sur, in San José Insurgentes, with a menu centred on rolls and fast service. It is the everyday lunch option in an office district, not a gastronomic experience.

What to expect. Sushi in the Mexican key: large rolls, many of them breaded or grilled with cheese on top, with cream cheese and sauces. It is a genre of its own, popular across the country, and should be judged as that rather than as Japanese sushi. If you want traditional nigiri and sashimi, this is not the address.

Watch the hours. Monday to Saturday 12:00 to 20:00, and closed on Sundays. Closing at eight rules it out for dinner: this is lunch and an early supper.

Getting there. Insurgentes Sur #73. Metrobús line 1 runs along the avenue and stops very close; Metro Barranca del Muerto and Mixcoac are not far.
