What it is. A boutique hotel in the south of the city with 35 studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom suites — a format built for extended stays as much as for short ones. The suites are bright and generous, with private balconies or terraces, dressing rooms and marble bathrooms.

Who it suits. Business travellers, families and anyone staying more than a few nights, where a kitchen and a separate bedroom change the trip. The south of the city is also where Mexico City is quietest.

Where it puts you. Pedregal del Maurel, in Coyoacán, on the lava field left by the Xitle eruption. Within reach: the centre of Coyoacán with the Jardín Centenario, the market and the Frida Kahlo Museum; Ciudad Universitaria, a World Heritage campus, with the MUAC and the Espacio Escultórico; and the Museo Anahuacalli, Diego Rivera's volcanic-stone temple for his pre-Hispanic collection.

Practical notes. Céfiro #5, Pedregal del Maurel. Coyoacán has no Metro of its own: Copilco and Universidad, line 3, are the nearest, with a short taxi. Book the Casa Azul online well ahead — it sells out daily. The centre is 30 to 40 minutes away by Metro.
