Where it is. Six Flags México sits on the Carretera Picacho-Ajusco, at kilometre 1.5, in Jardines del Ajusco —the southern edge of the city, high on the slopes of the Ajusco. That location is the main thing to plan for: it is a long way from the centre, it is considerably colder and wetter than the rest of the city, and the approach road is single-carriageway and slow at peak times.
How to get there. There is no metro. The practical options are a taxi or ride app (from the Centro, allow an hour or more), driving, or a packaged tour with transport included —which is what this experience provides, and the reason most visitors choose one: it removes the return trip at closing time, when thousands of people leave at once and cars queue for an hour on the Picacho road.
What to plan for. Buy tickets online, in advance, and go on a weekday if you possibly can: Saturdays, Sundays and Mexican school holidays mean long queues on the main rides. At over 2,500 metres the sun burns hard at midday and the afternoon brings rain from June to September, so bring sunscreen, a hat and a light waterproof. Food inside is expensive; a bottle of water and a sweater are worth carrying.
Before booking a tour. Confirm what is included —park admission, transport, pick-up point and time— and whether you are free to leave when you want or tied to the group's return. See the park's own page for opening hours.
