Embassies

VISITOR INFO · Are you having a problem? Did you lose your passport? Call your embassy.

What this page is for. The embassies and consulates represented in Mexico City, for travellers who need their own country's help. Most are concentrated in Polanco, Lomas de Chapultepec, Cuauhtémoc and along Paseo de la Reforma.

What an embassy can do for you. Issue an emergency travel document if your passport is lost or stolen, contact your family, give you a list of local lawyers and doctors, visit you if you are detained or hospitalised, and advise in a crisis. It cannot pay your bills, get you out of jail, investigate a crime, intervene in a court case or act as a travel agency.

If you lose your passport. File a report at the Ministerio Público first —your embassy will ask for it— then make an appointment with your consulate and bring the report, photographs, any proof of identity you still have and your travel details. Keeping a photograph of your passport and your entry form in your email makes this very much faster.

Before you go in person. Almost every mission now works by appointment only, consular hours are short and usually end at midday, and they close on both Mexican and their own national holidays. Addresses and telephone numbers change, so confirm on the embassy's own website before travelling across the city. For emergencies that are not consular —police, fire, ambulance— the number anywhere in Mexico is 911.
