in detail

What this is. An information point at the offices of the federal tourism ministry — the national body, as distinct from the Mexico City one. Free, and it sells nothing.

What it is useful for. Questions that go beyond the capital: the Pueblos Mágicos programme, which now covers well over a hundred towns across the country; national tourist routes; and official information about destinations in other states, which a city module will not have.

Where it puts you. The ministry's offices are in Polanco, on and around Presidente Masaryk — the most expensive shopping street in Latin America, lined with jacarandas that flower lilac through late March and April. Parque Lincoln, the Museo Soumaya and the Jumex are all within a short walk or ride.

Practical notes. Office hours, Monday to Friday. Metro Polanco and Auditorio, line 7. For day-to-day questions about Mexico City itself, the city's own modules — at the Zócalo, Reforma, Chapultepec and the terminals — are open at weekends and better placed.
