What this section covers. The transport services designed specifically for visitors: double-decker tourist buses and trams with a narrated route, which are a different thing from ordinary public transport.
The options. Turíbus and Capital Bus are open-top hop-on hop-off buses: the ticket is valid for the day and lets you get off at any stop. The tourist tram runs narrated routes through Coyoacán, the centre and the Condesa, with evening legend tours.
When it is worth it and when it is not. It is worth it on the first day of a short trip, to place the city and decide what to come back to; also if you travel with limited mobility or with small children, because it avoids long walks. It is not worth it if you already know the centre or if you move easily on the Metro: public transport is vastly cheaper and, at rush hour, faster.
Practical advice. Sit on the top deck and go early; take a cap, sunscreen and a light jacket, because at 2,200 metres the sun burns at midday and it cools at dusk, and from June to September it rains almost every afternoon.
