Garden Santa Fe

What it is. An award-winning piece of architecture as much as a shopping centre: Garden Santa Fe is built downwards, below a public park, so that what you see from the street is a garden with skylights and what you walk into is a sunken, daylit circuit of shops around a planted courtyard. Trees, reflecting pools and gardens are part of the structure, not decoration, and the project is usually cited as a model of sustainable commercial building in the city.

What is inside. A compact selection —international labels, cafés, services and a supermarket— aimed at the residents of the surrounding towers rather than at mass shopping. Go for the building and the quiet; for volume, Centro Santa Fe is nearby.

Practical notes. On Guillermo González Camarena #1205, in Santa Fe. Hours differ from the main malls and the weekend pattern changes —check before travelling. There is no metro in Santa Fe: come by taxi app, or by Metrobús and the connecting services from Tacubaya and Observatorio.
