República de Cuba #17, Col. Centro. 06000, Historic Center
What it is. One of the best-known gay clubs in Mexico City, on República de Cuba in the Historic Centre, and the one with a sense of humour about itself: sculptures and lighting play on the idea of purgatory, and the banner over the door reads Pare de sufrir —"stop suffering". Inside it is a proper dance floor with a good sound system rather than a bar with music.
The crowd. Mixed and explicitly inclusive —this stretch of República de Cuba is the heart of the city's LGBT nightlife, with several venues within a block of each other, which makes it an easy and safe area to go out in. Music runs to pop, reggaeton and electronic sets depending on the night, and there are regular shows.
Practical notes. Open Thursday 21:00–02:00 and Friday and Saturday 21:00–03:30; closed the rest of the week. It fills after midnight. There is a cover charge at the door, usually cash. Metro Allende and Bellas Artes are both a few minutes' walk, but take a ride app home at closing time.
