Museo del Enervante

What it is. A museum on drug trafficking and the military campaign against it, housed inside the facilities of the Secretariat of National Defence (Sedena) in Lomas de Sotelo. The displays run through the world that has grown around the trade —the narco-saints and folk shrines, the seized jewellery, gold-plated weapons and vehicles, the tunnels and concealment methods— and the risks faced by the soldiers deployed against it.

What it is not. It is not a celebration of the trade. The route is built as an argument: how production, transport and consumption work, what the armed forces do about each, and it closes with a section on the damage drug use does to the body.

How to visit. This is the important part: the museum sits inside an active military installation, so it is not a walk-in attraction. Access is granted by prior request and subject to authorisation, usually for organised or educational groups, and photo ID is required. Contact the numbers listed well in advance and confirm conditions before planning a trip across the city for it.
