The museum possesses about 12 thousand works in the National Collection of Prints, by Mexican artists such as José Guadalupe Posada, Leopoldo Méndez, Adolfo Mexiac, Mariana Yampolsky, Angelina Beloff, Julio Ruelas, David Alfaro Siqueiros and Rufino Tamayo.
It also features works by international artists such as Jacques Villon, Richard Serra, Bárbara Kruger, Hans Richter, Josef Albers, Antoni Tapies, Pierre Buraglio, Peter Klassen, Klaus Rinke, Antonio Saura, among others.
The building that houses the museum is considered national heritage. It is the Parroquia de la Santa Veracruz and the Iglesia de San Juan de Dios, which dates back almost 500 years. It opened as a museum in 1986.
