The MHNCA (Museo de Historia Natural y Cultura Ambiental) is an architectural ensemble consisting of ten large hemispherical structures with a total exhibition area of 7,500 square meters. 2,775 specimens are distributed over three modules:
2 vault module: The Universe, Centre for Climate and Change, and Temporary exhibition hall.
4 vault module: Evolution of life, Adaptation to the environment, and Origin and Classification of living things.
3 vault module: Human Evolution and Biogeography.
The museum also has a foyer and green areas that allow environmental education and science activities to be carried out.
Although construction began in 1999, it was not until years later when it was consolidated as Mexico City’s Natural History and Environmental Culture Museum. It currently offers guided tours to groups that are given by biologists and trained museum staff. The turs can be given to kindergarten children, and adults.
It is important to mention that the National Insect Collection consists of approximately 55,000 species, and can be visited by prior reservation.
