Working from somewhere other than your room. Mexico City has become one of the main destinations for remote work, and the practical question is where you can actually sit for four hours with a laptop without being moved on. These are places built for it.
Cafebrería El Péndulo. A bookshop that also feeds you, with several branches — Condesa, Roma, Polanco, Zona Rosa. Long opening hours, proper tables, reliable wi-fi and a cultural programme of concerts and readings. Probably the single best option in the city for a working day.
Caravanserai. Orizaba 101-A, in the Roma — a quiet corner that cuts the noise of the city, with a tea list that is the main event. Monday to Friday 10:00–21:00, weekends from 12:00.
Café Zena. Protasio Tagle 66-A, San Miguel Chapultepec. Designed by architects as a café and communal dining room, minimalist and built for concentration. Best for breakfast and lunch. Monday to Saturday 08:00–20:00, Sunday 10:30–15:30.
Ballarò. In the Roma, on the edge of the Condesa — a bakery that functions as the city's "bread library", and a reasonable place to work outside peak hours.
Practical notes. Peak hours are 09:00–11:00 and after 14:00, when the kitchens fill; mid-morning and mid-afternoon are the windows. Buy something every couple of hours — that is the understood arrangement. Power sockets are scarcer than tables, so arrive charged.
